 Scientific Drilling International is accepting online applications for the position of Ranging Support Specialist in Canada.

 The successful candidate will be a leader, problem solver, and project manager, with excellent technical knowledge in the field of directional drilling and magnetic ranging.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a suite of magnetic ranging technologies in a variety of directional drilling applications, with a primary focus on well blowout intersections. As part of our team, you will be expected to learn on-the-job, under the supervision and guidance of top professionals in the magnetic ranging field. This position is dynamic, and requires an individual who can adapt quickly to technical problem solving, client services, and project management.

Responsibilities include: operating and servicing a suite of magnetic ranging instruments in a wide variety of directional drilling environments including relief wells; analyzing ranging data and generating positioning models; advising clients in the office and in the field on all directional drilling and ranging matters related to the current job; generating on-site guidance reports; advising on well planning and control, M/LWD, and milling.

Required background and proficiencies may be provided from a combination of education and experience, with a focus on practical experience, and demonstrated high-level performance. An undergraduate degree in Engineering, Geology or Physics is an asset.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Analyzing ranging data and generating positioning models
  • Advising clients in the office and in the field on all directional drilling and ranging matters related to the current job
  • Generating on-site guidance reports
  • Advising on well planning and control, M/LWD, and milling.

 Key Qualifications

  • Experience with well control, well planning, and formation evaluation is expected
  • Proficient in Magnetic Ranging, Survey Management, LWD/Wireline procedures, and log interpretation
  • Completion of first line and second line are an asset.
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt easily to new environments
  • Ability to use logic to solve problems with effective solutions
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and results driven environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Ability to complete assignments with attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to read, communicate and understand the English language

Education & Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Associates degree, undergraduate degree a plus or industry experience equivalent
  • Previous SAP and manufacturing experience a plus

Experience requirements: minimum of one year industry field experience in directional drilling, magnetic ranging, or wire-line (M/LWD). Experience with well control, well planning, and formation evaluation is expected. The successful candidate will be proficient in Magnetic Ranging, Survey Management, LWD/Wireline procedures, and log interpretation. Completion of first line and second line are an asset.

Land and offshore certifications are required. All team members are expected to maintain the highest health, safety, and environmental awareness, while rigorously following all associated practices and regulations. Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
