Scientific Drilling is accepting online applications for the position of Senior Well Planner located in Houston, Texas.  Relocation may not be considered for this position.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Under direct supervision of a more senior well planner or well planning engineer.
  • Work with engineers and customers to gather preliminary data and design well plans in customary formats.
  • Work with property lines to ensure that the well stays within leased property.
  • Calculate well paths using information provided by client's engineers and geologists.
  • Prepare planning reports, anti-collision reports, preliminary plots, wall plots and anticollision spider plots for clients, SDI office, and field use.
  • Update appropriate databases with daily surveys provided by SDI field personnel.
  • Assist field personnel in monitoring PVA (plan vs. actual). • Provide PVA plots and reports to clients at desired intervals.
  • Prepare reports for railroad commission, MMS, other like-kind governmental bodies, when applicable.
  • Prepare EOW (End of Well) reports and plots for clients and SDI office at the end of each job.
  • From time to time, may go on-site or to client site to consult with drilling personnel regarding wellbore position and other issues related to well planning, e.g. to develop alternative well plans.
  • Perform other relevant duties as required.
  • Mentor less experienced well planners to proliferate lessons learned and best practices.
  • Support district well planners and engineers to cover peak loads, provide computer support, solve problems.
  • Provide well planning and engineering support for tenders, initial support when launching new districts in particular internationally.
  • In-House well planning/engineering if applicable.
  • May participate in industry specific best practices groups such as SPE, SPWLA, AADE, IADD, etc.
  • Actively collaborates with Scientific Drilling personnel and client experts writing industry papers that propel recognition of Scientific Drilling as an industry leader.
  • Competent to work in-house without supervision conducting well planning but not engineering.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering or Science (Mechanical, Petroleum, Civil, Industrial, Aerospace, Math, Physics) or equivalent. Appropriate substitute of both employer coursework and industry experience may be considered.
  • 4-6 years in upstream oil and gas field experience in drilling, surveying or measurement while drilling beneficial.
  • Computer software skills in MS Office required. Landmark Graphics Engineering software, or equivalent, is a plus.
  • Proven track record of soft skills in communication, team building, mentoring is desirable.
