Scientific Drilling is looking for a Cost Accountant/Analyst to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging service company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems. 

Nestled between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the California Central Coast is the location described as the happiest place on earth.  Home to where others vacation, including 200+ wineries, fresh air, miles of beautiful beaches, and small town appeal. Our Cost Accountant/Analyst position will be working in our Finance department.

The Cost Accountant/Analyst is expected to perform advanced cost accounting work and compare actual costs to standard, analyze variances, develop standard cost data and accurate inventory valuations. The successful candidate must possess understanding of Cost Accounting Standards and Principles.

Key Job Functions:

  • Create and maintain material level standard costs in accordance with corporate policies and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing personnel on structure and validity of BOM and routing data. Update, collect and study data to determine costs of business activities.
  • Provide accurate, timely costing information to the business to support business decisions. Review and develop standard work to ensure variances arising from purchase prices and work orders are investigated and any necessary corrective actions implemented.
  • Assist in the analysis of financial data and assess relevant information; interpret data for the purpose of applying past financial performance to future standards.
  • Reconcile ending inventory balances on monthly basis.
  • Provide support as required for cost benefit analysis related to projects and/or programs.
  • Manage the excess and obsolete inventory reserves based on guidance from corporate policy.
  • Adhere to safety standards with Company HSE policies.
  • Pursue every job with drive and determination.
  • Use logic to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3+ years of experience in similar Accounting or Finance functions.
  • Working knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Strong proficiency and advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or CMA.
  • Experience in SAP and/or BPC.
