Scientific Drilling is looking for a System Verification/Software QA Engineer to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems. 

Nestled between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the California Central Coast is the location described as the happiest place on earth.  Home to where others vacation, including 200+ wineries, fresh air, miles of beautiful beaches, and small town appeal. Our System Verification/Software QA Engineer position will be working in our Research and Development department.

The System Verification/Software QA Engineer is expected to perform the essential duties listed below.  Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with both internal and external customers as well as the Product Development teams to establish engineering testing requirements, define test plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for each application.
  • Develop test automation for GUI, browser based applications or tool-specific (firmware) applications by using either currently existing testing tools or developing proprietary tools to automate testing.
  • Work independently with Product Development and Product Management to define, research, correct, and retest defects.
  • Perform manual and automated tests based on the test specification.
  • Report test results and log defects following defined test reporting procedures.
  • Design and implements infrastructure and test scripts for automated tests.
  • Work independently to investigate system level bugs, defects, and issues to isolate the area of failure.
  • Contribute to process improvement by collaborating with System Verification team members to improve knowledge or skill, review team member's work, and provide helpful feedback.
  • Adhere to and improve safety standards.
  • Manage work station and practice good housekeeping techniques.
  • Pursue every job with drive and determination.
  • Use logic to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in automated test scripting.
  • Experience with software configuration management tools such as Perforce.
  • Proficiency in systems QA/ testing concepts, processes, methodologies and programming techniques.
  • Proficiency in the practical application of engineering science and technology including applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to design and production.
  • Proficiency in electronic equipment and computer hardware and software.
  • Knowledge of low power design and microprocessor interfacing. 
  • Knowledge of electronic measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes and multi-meters.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and results driven environment.
  • Very strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to present oneself with professional appearance and behavior in accordance with ATC dress code and SDI Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to meet all SDI/ATC safety requirements.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to read, communicate, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to communicate and interact effectively with managers and peers, both written and verbally.
  • Adhere to established Company procedures and policies, work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results.

  • Must be tactful and able to resolve disputes between departments and settle personnel

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience developing and/or managing test plans a plus.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Visio, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • C/C++/C#/Python programming skills a plus.
  • Hardware debugging experience using JTAG, oscilloscopes, and/or logic analyzers is a plus.
  • Testing/Verification experience in a product development environment is a plus
  • Knowledge of the product development cycle is a plus.
