Scientific Drilling is looking for a Printed Circuit Board (PCB) Designer to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems. 

Nestled between San Francisco and Los Angeles, the California Central Coast is the location described as the happiest place on earth.  Home to where others vacation, including 200+ wineries, fresh air, miles of beautiful beaches, and small town appeal. Our PCB Designer position will be working in our Engineering department.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the design of electronic wiring diagrams, circuit board assembly diagrams, schematics, and layout designs used for manufacturing, installation, and repair of electronic equipment.
  • Consult with engineers to discuss and develop design concepts, and determine requirements of detailed working drawings.
  • Examine electronic schematics and supporting documents to develop, compute, and verify specifications for drafting data, such as configuration of parts, dimensions, and tolerances.
  • Support Electronic Engineering group with schematic capture support, PCB Layout support, PCB Assembly drawing support, and PCB parts list support.
  • Write PCB/Mechanical Schematics, Layouts, Assembly Drawings, or Part Lists, process procedures.
  • Develop, modify and maintain procedural manuals for PCB database library including PCB/Mechanical Schematics, Layouts, Assembly Drawings, and Parts List.
  • Coach Drafters and provide guidance and feedback on drafting improvements.
  • Responsible for following protocol, archiving design source files, and managing multiple projects.
  • Adhere to and improve safety standards.
  • Manage work station and practice good housekeeping techniques.
  • Pursue every job with drive and determination.
  • Use logic to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency with Schematic Capture and PCB/Mechanical Layout tools efficiently, including Altium. 
  • Subject matter experience on common electronic layout concepts, such as digital and analog partitioning, and ground isolation.
  • Proficiency with IPC-2220 Series, IPC-7351, IPC-A-610.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and results driven environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to present oneself with professional appearance and behavior in accordance with ATC dress code and SDI Code of Conduct.
  • Ability to meet all SDI/ATC safety requirements.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to read, communicate, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with managers and peers, both written and verbally.
  • Adhere to established Company procedures and policies, work schedule, attendance standards and is punctual to work and meetings.

Education, Experience, Certification, Training

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Associate's Degree in Electronics is preferred.
  • 3-5 years direct, non-academic experience in Mechanical/PCB layout design and drafting.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Adobe products.
  • 5+ year experience with Altium required, or related software.
  • SolidWorks software experience preferred.
