Scientific Drilling is looking for a Global Materials Manager (GMM) to work at our Houston Technology Center in Houston, TX.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems. 

   The Global Materials Manager (GMM) is responsible for the Purchasing, Inventory, and Strategic Supply Chain functions, which ensures material delivery is of appropriate quality, quantity, cost, and delivery timing.  This position will work closely with the Production and Engineering departments while supporting production delivery, budgeting of materials, and design specifications.  They should have the ability to understand team issues, dynamics, and motivate a team across multiple geographic locations. They will need to be well-versed with the traditional as well as advanced methods used in inventory control.  This position will commonly use negotiation skills and perform market researching, looking for strategic suppliers and managing the Request for Proposal (RFP) and Request for Quotation (RFQ) process before vendor selection. The GMM frequently builds specifications for materials to be ordered and must be skilful in planning and analyzing the requirements of the production department.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Collects requirements from the Production and Engineering departments and design specifications and budgets for materials Researches pricing in the market and qualifies vendors who can supply the product in high quality, appropriate quantity and on time Negotiates with the vendors, manages contracts, coordinates (RFP)/(RFQ) processes, places orders for materials, and ensures that the placed orders are delivered on time
  • Supervises available inventory and inventory levels, both in the central warehouses and manufacturing & repair facilities, and generates monthly inventory reports
  • Identifies excess and obsolete inventory materials by collecting information from the production department and/or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)/ Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) system Manages Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) inventory and VMI vendor relationship across the company
  • Identifies the emergency requirements of the materials and arranges supplies
  • Participate in meetings with the Production, Finance, and Engineering departments and giving details of purchasing activity
  • Provide training to entry level employees
  • Maintain on-going relations with suppliers
  • Answer the questions of Senior Executives and Directors of the Company

Departmental Responsibilities:

  • Management of the Purchasing Group, including:
    • Buyer Staffing and Planning to meet company demand (ATC & HTC)
    • Purchasing of materials (Req. and PO Aging Reports)
    • Parts delivery (Past Due Parts Reporting)
    • Inventory levels and usage analysis to meeting company usage/demand
    • SAP/MRP Purchasing Processes
  • Management of Global Manufacturing Inventory, including ownership of:
    • Top level value of all warehouse valued inventory, including: HTC Warehouse, ATC Valued Inventory Locations, Motor Shop and Pulser Shop Inventory
    • Cycle counts and cycle count discrepancies
    • Inventory Turns
    • Storage and shelving techniques
    • Stocking Levels, Reorder Points, Max/Min, Multiples, Safety Stocks, etc.
    • Inventory parts obsolescence, within SDIs reserve value
  • Strategic Sourcing:
    • Category Management and spend analysis
    • Strategic Contract Management and Negotiations
    • VMI at all Manufacturing locations

 

  • Manages the entire Procurement scope, including directing and coordinating Purchasing, Expediting, Logistics, Inventory and Material Management for all warehouse locations
  • Is responsible for all department deliverables such as staffing plan, delivery and project schedules, processes and SOPs, and execution plans
  • Establishes project procurement procedures to ensure deliverables meet company and project requirements
  • Responsible for appropriate executed Procurement in terms of: safety, compliance to rules and regulations, contract terms and conditions, vendor product quality, schedule and budget
  • Identifies problems and coordinates with cross-functional teams and departments to correct
  • Proactively manages changes
  • Ensures effective and periodic communications among project disciplines
  • Works closely with Engineering and Manufacturing teams
  • Assures that problems are reported timely to the appropriate parties and/or teams
  • Understands and reviews project forecasts and delivery status with internal clients, management, and project leads
  • Reports and communicates actively to Senior Management
  • Client-service orientation with a strong focus on delivering exceptional customer service
  • Strong interpersonal, teamwork, and organizational skills
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree, coupled with C.P.M. or CPSM certification; preferred
  • Proven track record in cost reduction programs
  • Experience with e-procurement tools, such as e-bidding or e-auctions
  • Clear written and verbal communication and presentation skills in order to flow goals and directives
  • Ability to work in a complex schedule driven work environment
  • Procurement experience in "lump-sum" business
  • Willingness to travel worldwide on short notice
  • Experience in working with Suppliers from China, India, Korea
  • At least five+ years' experience in Project Procurement Management
  • SAP knowledge a plus
