Scientific Drilling is looking for CHS Tech & Operations Support staff to work at our Corporate Headquarters in Houston, TX.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems. 

The Technical & Operations Support Team provides both operations and sales within a particular product line.  This position is responsible for supporting new and expanding cased hole operations worldwide.  Additionally, as a Technical Product Champion they will train and transfer knowledge to the district's to enable their capacity to take over ongoing operations.  The primary role is to support Field Operations and the position reports to the Global Product Line Manager.

Involved with ATC Project Managers and Engineering in developing final field test and verification plan for the projects as they come through engineering.  They will be involved in the release to SDI operations of any such new services, considering risk from outstanding features and schedule from the Product Line Manager.  They will enable Technology Transfer and work with Quality Management Systems groups in coordinating and implementing specific tests and trials during the field test and verification stages, as well as proper implementation by the field.

Candidates must be willing to travel up to 50% of the time.  Candidates must also have current, valid authorization to work in the United States

Duties and Responsibilities:

 Engineering and Development

  • Acts as a feedback between Field Operations and engineering development, providing detailed specification and use cases, and ensuring that developed products are usable in the field operations environment.
  • Involved in pre-commercial testing and verification, and works with Technology Transfer/Operations Support to execute test plans as required.
  • Involved in Final Verification and Signoff for Commercialization for field release to operations, ensuring that operational and safety risk factors have been thoroughly analyzed and managed.

Operations Commercialization and Technology Transfer

  • Training Documentation and Manuals - Helps development and maintenance of technical and operations manuals and materials relating to new and current developments. Works with documentation department and/or Technology Transfer/Operations Support to develop quality manuals.
  • Operation Training - In conjunction with corporate training department, develops training standards and certification for operators in areas pertaining to products.
  • Involved in the commercial deployment of products into new areas designated by the Product Line Manager. Works with regional operations technical leadership to implement roll-out plans.
  • Quality Management System Liaison contributes to developing quality management system documents, work flows and specifications.

Operations Support

  • Provides support to Sales team as required on Cased Hole Products and Services
  • Identifies Sustaining Engineering Projects/Improvements to existing systems
  • Authors/Approves Technical Bulletins for Products
  • Provides top-level technical support as required
  • Coordinates Follow-Up on all field Non-Conformances
  • Customer Interface - Attends meetings with clients as technical expert on product area.
  • Provides all other help as required by PLM.

 Training Support: May be called on to provide support in formalized training systems. (Classroom training, e.g.).

Documentation:  Works with appropriate documentation department(s) to ensure that operational documentation is up-to-date and available.

Testing and Development Support: Manages testing and development support of specific products via interaction with the Operations Support/Technology Transfer Group and Engineering.

SDI Application Expert:  Acts an application expert for technologies implemented by SDI.

Prepares project related reports, presentations, memorandums, proposals and correspondence as well as attends or leads meetings relating to projects in which they are involved.

Education, Experience, Certification and Training:

  • Prefer a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Junior position Minimum 2 years' experience in engineering and/or technical development.
  • Senior position Minimum 5-10 years' experience in oil and gas service operations, in product-line related areas and any Geothermal Wireline Experience would be a bonus.
  • Completion of SDI required HSE and skill level training or equivalent.
