Scientific Drilling is looking for a Manufacturing MRP Controller to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems.

The Manufacturing MRP Controller is responsible for the management and leadership of SAP modules and non-SAP business systems which support manufacturing and MRP functions. Development of the methodology, framework, tools, and training to enable world class manufacturing transformation initiatives.  To champion best practices and play an integral role in the professional development of the SDI manufacturing team through coaching, mentoring and training of key processes and tools.  Includes identifying impacts across systems, and coordinating with other departments to ensure manufacturing and MRP processes are efficient and remain consistent globally.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support manufacturing MRP business process and ERP system-related initiatives
  • Lead requirements definition, Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) updates, and end user training to support manufacturing MRP related business processes and ERP system process.
  • Understand integration points between all manufacturing MRP processes, including Master Data.
  • Fully grasp impacts of proposed process and/or system changes and enhancements in order to determine/recommend resolutions and corrective actions of issues identified.
  • Stay abreast of new requirements and available ERP system functionality to optimize manufacturing MRP business processes.
  • Develop manufacturing MRP business and system process training curriculum and conduct training sessions.
  • Review/manage MRP system data and business practices to ensure efficiency of planning and manufacturing staff.
  • Collaborate with global business users to research, design, document, and implement business processes and/or improvements as they relate to manufacturing MRP activities/functions to meet the global goals and objectives of the business.
  • Monitor and update consistency of SAP Master (Meta) Data.
  • Based on business requirements, develop new and maintain existing sets of standard queries and reports.
  • Troubleshoot technical application and data issues and engage with the SAP CoE group or third party suppliers for higher levels of support.
  • Provides cross-functional team support for global manufacturing MRP related requirements
  • Provides global training on manufacturing MRP business processes and system technology.
  • Analyze, model and document current-state and future-state business processes.
  • Monitor, analyze, and adjust global ERP system manufacturing MRP parameters.


Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • ERP systems and process flows.  SAP experience preferred.
  • Business processes as they pertain to end-to-end manufacturing:  master production scheduling, inventory control, capacity planning, shop floor control, management information systems, and manufacturing/operations.
  • Discrete make-to-order, make-to-stock and forecasted manufacturing environment.
  • S&OP Forecasting
  • Manufacturing processes (routings, BOM's, etc.)
  • Microsoft Excel, Access, and SAP
  • Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
  • Conform to shifting priorities, demands and time-lines through analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Congenial personality with the ability to lead, persuade, encourage, and motivate.
  • Ability to obtain cross-functional cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper management, end users, and contractors

Education, Experience, Certification, and Training:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Manufacturing, operations management, or computer science, (equivalent work experience acceptable).
  • One to three years of SAP experience (MM, PP, PM modules)
  • One to three years of progressive experience implementing and/or supporting ERP system: SAP (preferred), Oracle, JDE, Baan, Infor
  • Functional expertise in production planning and/or engineering.
