Scientific Drilling is looking for an IT Manager to work at our Applied Technologies Center in Paso Robles, CA.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems.

The IT Manager will provide management of a multi-disciplinary IT team with responsibility for the overall IT direction, coordination, task and project execution, and evaluation of the team.  Provide End User customer service to a diverse user population with a wide range of technical skills and knowledge.

 Candidates must have authorization to work in the United States.

Key Job Functions:

  • Responsible for fulfilling IT manager responsibilities as directed and in accordance with the Company's policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Manages the daily IT operations and priorities of the ATC IT Department. Using the IT Service Desk functions works quickly to resolve IT issues and minimize negative user impact.
  • Responsible for all IT systems support and maintenance, and ensures timely issue resolution.
  • Responsible for the Web Applications Development team, team projects, and team deliverables.
  • Plans and executes IT systems, networks, components, and application upgrades.  Coordinates Maintenance Windows to minimize impact on end user population and departments. 
  • On-call as needed, available to work all hours of the nights and weekends (when necessary).
  • Monitors and manages, the ATC IT infrastructure (network, servers, firewalls, desktops, Wi-Fi, phones, data, applications, security cameras, conference rooms and digital security).
  • Manages data, data backup processes and policies to provide failover and disaster recovery options. 
  • Adhere to safety standards with Company HSE policies.
  • Employs systematic problem solving methodology and trains the team in that methodology.
  • Leads and manages the laptop fleet for both Field Operations and ATC employees.
  • Manage work station and practice good housekeeping techniques.
  • Pursue every job with drive and determination.
  • Use logic to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business.

Key Job Competencies

  • Strong proficiency of Microsoft operating systems Win 7, 10, Server 2008 - 2012. 
  • Good understanding of development and scripting languages (Python, Powershell, Excel).
  • Proficiency with Active Directory, SQL, Exchange, Remote Desktop services.
  • Proficiency in IT systems networking, switches, wireless systems, digital security, Meraki firewalls.
  • Proficiency with Cloud based technology as well as Cisco (VPN) Technology.
  • Ability to coach and mentor staff to high performance levels.
  • Ability to present relevant data and analysis to leadership.
  • Ability to work in fast paced and results driven environment.
  • Strong attention to staff supervision, task management, and timely task execution.
  • Adapt quickly to new technical challenges, problems and situations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in IT support.
  • Extensive experience working in multiple systems platforms.
  • Experience leading, coaching, mentoring, an IT team, and providing customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience interviewing and hiring preferred.
  • Experience in performance appraisal process and reviews preferred.
  • RHCE / MCSA certifications preferred.

Equipment & Software Knowledge

Equipment and software used in performing the essential job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Windows OS, Servers, Cisco Switches, Meraki Firewalls, Anti-Virus applications, Scripting Language, Enterprise and IT Monitoring applications.
  • MS Office Word, Power Point and Excel. Strong Excel skills a plus.
