Scientific Drilling is looking for a Manager, RSS Repair & Maintenance Operations to work at our Houston Technology Center in Houston, TX.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems. 

The Manager, RSS Repair & Maintenance Operations position will provide strategic leadership and direction through the development and management of long and short-range goals, processes, strategies, forecasts, budgets, and policies for global RSS production and repair.

Key Job Functions

  • Building, managing, and supervising multi-disciplinary teams, including; setting goals, appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, in accordance with the Company's policies, procedures, and code of conduct.
  • Addressing personnel complaints and resolving problems.
  • Planning, assigning and directing team objectives.
  • Interviewing, staffing, hiring and training employees.
  • Developing, training, and mentoring a team, to foster a high performance and creative environment.
  • Directing production and repair for RSS shop facilities, both domestic and international.
  • Production delivery, team output, planning, quality, safety, administration, and financial performance.
  • Actively improving our quality performance and reliability of RSS systems as they relate to manufacturing, repair, maintenance, or sustaining engineering.
  • Collaboration with Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Quality, and other departments to achieve collective goals and provide cross-functional, high valued KPIs.
  • Providing process engineering support to R&D and Sustaining Engineering during the development, scoping, construction, and start-up of new projects.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment failures, operational issues, and maintenance items.
  • Efforts to continually improve process workflow, quality, and reliability of RSS tools, and team skill sets.
  • Adherence to safety standards with Company HSE policies.
  • Participating and proactively drive Health, Environmental & Safety related initiatives such as Operability Studies, HAZOPS, JHAs/JSAs, Hazard Hunts, and incident investigations.
  • RSS shop housekeeping, organization, structured workflow, organized inventory storage and management.
  • Reviewing and approving inventory, repair and capital build related RSS purchase orders and invoices.
  • Availability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 40%.
  • Pursuing every job with drive and determination.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other technical field required.
  • 10+ years of direct experience in a technical role or shop environment (drilling experience preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience managing/leading teams.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience supervising, coaching, mentoring, and managing a team.
  • Training and knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, ISO900x compliance and 5S standards.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience interviewing and hiring a plus.
  • Experience in performance appraisal process and reviews a plus.
  • Experience with project management preferred; Six Sigma a plus.

Equipment & Software Knowledge

Equipment and software used in performing the essential job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Strong proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Working Environment, Physical Job Requirements and PPE

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 25 lbs., perceive depth and operate a motor vehicle.
  • Conditions may include working inside and/or outside. May work around machines with moving parts and moving objects.  Working near radiant and electrical energy.  Working closely with others or working alone.  Working extended and/or irregular hours and traveling by all possible modes of transportation.
  • Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but not limited to computers and related equipment, calculators, copiers, fax machines, telephone and vehicles. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, hardhat, reinforced toed shoes, coveralls, gloves, and ear plugs.
