Scientific Drilling is looking for a Supervisor, RSS Repair and Maintenance to work at our Houston Technology Center in Houston, TX.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems. 

The Supervisor, RSS Repair & Maintenance position will be responsible for the overall operations of the RSS repair and maintenance workshops, overseeing preventative maintenance, repair, new build, and on time customer delivery.

Key Job Functions

  • Managing repair and maintenance of existing fleet and new build of RSS tools.
  • Ensuring compliance with all safety and quality regulations, and maintaining safe standard operating procedures for all repair and maintenance facilities.
  • Strong focus on QA/QC to develop and implement tracking and quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control, maintenance, and other operational reports, to detect production and/or maintenance problems.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis on quality events to determine cause of failure and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Management of a multi-disciplinary team with responsibility for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of individual and team performance.
  • Fulfilling manager responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and procedures.
  • Interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Coordinating services including, equipment maintenance, cleaning, and waste disposal.
  • Completing and returning RSS breakdown, incident and failure reports to engineering and/or the Districts.
  • Filling out R&D test forms and routing them through the proper channels.
  • Creating RSS reports and make notes for special circumstances.
  • Coordinating with District personnel for customer needs and fulfillment on RSS deliveries/needs.
  • Providing assembly, disassembly, and test paperwork for RSS tools including: work orders, assembly QC data, inspection reports, and other required forms.
  • Assist in troubleshooting equipment failures, operational issues, and maintenance items.
  • Provide process engineering support to Project Engineering during the development, scoping, construction, and start-up of new projects.
  • Participate in Health, Environment & Safety related initiatives such as Operability Studies, HAZOPS, and incident investigations.
  • Approve and direct contractors that support AMO and capital project execution.
  • Providing month end reports, KPIs, and other relevant data and reporting to management.
  • Maintaining inventory forecasts and levels to repair tools or build new assets.
  • Ensuring the tool quality and performance meet the manufacturing, industry, and QMS standards.
  • Ensuring that defects and non-conformance issues are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring understanding, use, and adherence (by the team) to the documented procedures.
  • Reviewing and sign off on Technician and Quality Control paperwork.
  • Coordinate, recommend, and manage procedures for facility and equipment maintenance, calibration, and modification, including the replacement of machines.
  • Strong focus on Cost Control.
  • Adherence to safety standards with Company HSE policies.
  • RSS shop housekeeping, organization, structured workflow, organized inventory storage and management.
  • Pursuing every job with drive and determination.

  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the needs of the business.
  • Efforts to continually improve process workflow, quality, reliability of RSS tools, and team skill sets.
  • Travel domestically or internationally up to 35% of time.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma (or GED equivalent); Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of direct experience in a technical role or shop environment.
  • 5+ years of experience leading or supervising teams.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
  • Experience supervising, coaching, mentoring, or managing a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience interviewing and hiring a plus.
  • Experience in performance appraisal process and reviews a plus.

Equipment & Software Knowledge

Equipment and software used in performing the essential job functions include but are not limited to:

  • Strong proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

Working Environment, Physical Job Requirements and PPE

  • Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders. Hear with aid, see, perceive depth, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Conditions include working inside and outside in all types of weather. Working around moving objects, moving vehicles and machines with moving parts. Working around radiant and electrical energy. Working closely with others, working alone, working extended and/or irregular hours. Working environment may include but not limited to excessive or intermittent noise, fumes, smoke, gases, grease, dust, oil and solvents.
  • Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing the essential job function include but are not limited to computer and related equipment, calculator, special instrumentation, forklift, pallet jack, hand tools, power tools, air tools and telephone. Ability to wear proper personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to, safety glasses, hardhat, reinforced toed boots, welding leathers, gloves and ear plugs.
