Scientific Drilling is looking for a Surveyor Trainee to work at our Bakersfield Facility in Shafter, CA.  Scientific Drilling is an independent directional drilling and wellbore navigation, surveying and logging Service Company serving customers worldwide.  Our industry leading navigation systems provide definitive wellbore placement information, enabling safer and more efficient placement of tightly spaced wellbores throughout the world.  We are motivated by crafting innovative and elegant solutions to technically challenging problems. 

As a Surveyor trainee the employee will be required to work at the rig site and learn, through observation and hands-on on the job training, the suite of SDI tools used in his area.  The job requires assembly, testing, servicing and operation of various survey technologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Observes and assists in job pre-planning and mobilization.
  • Develops and maintains positive attitude.
  • Works diligently to learn the required proficiencies for Survey services.
  • Assists in managing inventory and supplies required at the well site.
  • Provides quality service related to job preparation and planning.
  • Strong knowledge of the oilfield industry.
  • Accepts guidance from senior and junior surveyors related to own personal development and maintains current competencies described in the Education, Experience, Certification and Training section.
  • Assists in rig-up and rig-down at the well site.
  • Assists and learns troubleshooting of Survey tools.
  • Assists technicians in checking and preparing Survey equipment for the job.
  • Perform other relevant duties as required.

Education, Experience, Certification, and Training:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 2 year associates degree or equivalent.
  • 2 years minimum oil field experience.
  • Completion of SDI required HSE and skill level training or equivalent.
